Formerly: Gaspé Mine, Gaspé Peninsula, Lemieux Township, Gaspé-Ouest Co., Québec, Canada [The Copper Mountain mine should not be confused with another mine of the same name, 20 km south Princeton, British Columbia.]

Gaspé Copper Mines, Limited, a subsidiary of Noranda Mines Limited (later, Mines Gaspé and Noranda Inc., respectively), mined copper and molybdenum. Copper mineralization was discovered in 1921. Murdochville was founded in 1951, and mining and smelting operations began in 1955. All operations ceased in 2002. The orebodies are hosted by Early Devonian sedimentary rocks associated with a rhyodacite porphyry plug. There are two types of orebodies: replacement skarns at Needle Mountain, and porphyry-copper at Copper Mountain, about 1.6 km north of Needle Mountain. Mining began at Needle Mountain in 1955, and at Copper Mountain in 1968. The orebodies in the metamorphosed sediments at Needle Mountain occur in distinct stratigraphic levels, and are named from the top down, the A, B, C and E zones. A-zone was mined as an openpit; and the other zones by underground methods. The Copper Mountain mine was a large openpit. Most of the minerals listed occurred in massive form or on a microscopic scale. The locality is best known for fine specimens of apophyllite-(KF) crystals. These came from the C-zone in Needle Mountain. An oxide capping at Copper Mountain yielded attractive specimens of chrysocolla. In the absence of specific information e.g. C-zone, Needle Mountain, the locality is best referred to as the Gaspé Copper mine (“Gaspé mine” should be avoided as there are other mines in the Gaspé Peninsula).
