Mainly a copper mine, with minor Ag, Au, Sn and W mineralization too, although no discrete Au-Ag minerals are visible. (1958 production: 2,856 tons Cu, 6 tons Ag; ore averaging 1.1% Cu.) Miocene hydrothermal chalcopyrite-pyrite veins traverse sedimentary rocks intruded by quartz porphyry dikes of the Kumano acidic intrusives.
According to a old literature, started from early 8th century as Youji-gawa copper mine and other small mines. It is said that the copper from this mine was used for casting the Great Buddha statue in Nara (completed in AD752).
In 1937, Ishihara-sangyo-kaiunn Co., Ltd. was integrated small mines in this area as Kishu mine.
In 1978, mine closed.
