Mined from 1639 to 1978. Sweden's second largest silver mine (after Sala).
The marble- and metavolcanic-hosted Pb–Zn–(Ag–Sb–As) deposits of the Hällefors district, comprise both stratabound sulphides and discordant, Ag-rich sulphide–sulphosalt veins.
