Crust of colourless Hemimorphite crystals covered by dense precipitations of black fine-disperse Galena and brownish transparent rhombohedrons of Mg-rich Smithsonite (Zn0.70Mg0.19Fe0.07Ca0.04)[CO3] and spherulites of Monheimite of the same colour (Zn0.65Fe0.23Mn0.07Ca0.05)[CO3]. A Fe-Zn carbonate (moheimite) ball over quartz (chalcedony) from silicate mantle from Sierra de Cartagena, finds at a ravine between San Valentin open pit and San José-Gloria quarries. Uncommon habit for this specimen. Image processed and stacked using GIMP software.

This locality is noted for the occurrence of Monheimite. According to published data, Monheimite is a ferroan (iron-bearing) variety of Smithsonite in which Fe2+ substitutes for Zn up to at least ~40 mol%.
