Baryte (Var: Baryte Rose)

Sand pit, Rockenberg, Wetteraukreis, Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany

A 'baryte rose' with sand inclusions, typical for this locality. These are often found in large clusters and formations, up to several decimetres across, but in contrast this is a nice isolated small thumbnail example.

Sand-Baryte 26x19x12cm A big floater from this location.

Baryte (Var: Baryte Rose)

Sand pit, Rockenberg, Wetteraukreis, Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany

9.2 x 7.2 x 5.2 cm. A beautiful classic, near "floater" group of the hard to find baryte "roses" from the Sand Pit locality at Rockenberg. The piece shows excellent form, with very good sized beige colored "roses". I'm told that the analysis of this material showed that the "roses" are actually around 50% quartz/sand particles vs around 40% ...

Baryte (Var: Baryte Rose)

Sand pit, Rockenberg, Wetteraukreis, Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany

6.5 x 5.4 x 2.7 cm. This Tertiary sandstone quarry is well-known for sand-included baryte "roses", but specimens are seldom available. This is an exceptional, pristine, two-sided floater "rose" with superb form. The striking ribbon and clusters of sand grains with limonite on both sides are superlative accessories to this sculptural cutie. It ...

Sand pit, Rockenberg, Wetteraukreis, Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany

This piece is a fine quality and very good sized example of these elusive "baryte rose" specimens from Rockenberg. These pieces are quite reminiscent of famous red sandstone Baryte "roses" from Oklahoma, but this one has much finer detail. The piece is essentially a "floater", with only one contacted crystal that I can find, and the overall ...
