Quartz (Var: Chalcedony)

Yankee Dog Claim, Hidalgo County, New Mexico, USA

A gorgeous, undulating light lavender chalcedony specimen, like a flower cupped in the matrix. In back, it looks for all the world as if the chalcedony has formed in a fossil shell, though I cannot swear to it. It certainly appears to be the case, with the shell forming a natural vug for the chalcedony deposition. Fluoresces bright green. 6.5 x ...

Quartz (Var: Chalcedony)

Yankee Dog Claim, Hidalgo County, New Mexico, USA

In the early to mid 1990's these Chalcedony nodules were quite abundant, but that didn't last that long. While you can occasionally still see these specimens for sale, you really have to look hard to find one that looks even halfway decent. Besides its aesthetic look, this Chalcedony exhibits a stunning, intense green fluorescence.

Quartz (Var: Chalcedony)

Yankee Dog Claim, Hidalgo County, New Mexico, USA

A curiously formed example of pink Chalcedony that was once abundant in the mid 1990's. As far as I know nothing new has been found at this location for quite some time. This cavernous specimen is among the better examples found at this location. Another neat feature of this specimen is it's intense apple-green fluorescence.
