Rare Earth Mine No. 2, Monmouth Township, Highlands East Township, Haliburton County, Ontario, Canada
Here is the entrance to the Adit. It is cemented over with a hole. A small stream exits the adit.
A foundation near a large dump beside a river.
Here is inside the adit, condensation makes photography very difficult. It is partially flooded inside, you can see a line on the right rock wall that showed where the water level was when the cement cover was intact. The adit goes in some distance.
Some ruins near the river.
Some dump rock along the road near the adit.
Here is a small lake near the adit. The road heading to the adit branches toward the lake & the other heads toward the adit.
Here is the river seen from the old foundation. There is a large dump just along the river bank.
Here is the trial to the adit, it is very swampy & starts at the Adit dump remains.
Here is where the dump was from the adit. The dump is mostly gone but the remaining rock is radioactive above background.
Some covered pipes near the old foundation beside the river.
Here is the riverside dumps, seen from the foundation looking to the right.
Some ruins near the old foundation.
More of the riverside dumps seen from the foundation. Looking to the left.
Continue on the road, down the grade, an open parking area will be seen. Park here......adit is in view Circa 2009 - 2012 Please see my #28 article "Radioactive Reality II: “Bancroft Area: Radioactive Mineral Sites”
From the roof, a metal pin with two hooks is seen. Toward the back in the light a tunnel can be seen. Just to the right of the tunnel are four timbers standing vertically Circa 2009 - 2012 Please see my #28 article "Radioactive Reality II: “Bancroft Area: Radioactive Mineral Sites”
Some type of small concrete structure Circa 2009 - 2012 Please see my #28 article "Radioactive Reality II: “Bancroft Area: Radioactive Mineral Sites”
At one time the adit was blocked up, obviously someone didn't care for all the block. Circa 2009 - 2012 Please see my #28 article "Radioactive Reality II: “Bancroft Area: Radioactive Mineral Sites”
This entire gravel area is radioactive. My Geiger chirped continuously. Run off from here flows into the stream also. Circa 2009 - 2012 Please see my #28 article "Radioactive Reality II: “Bancroft Area: Radioactive Mineral Sites”
While checking for radiation at the adit, I uncovered an interesting item Circa 2009 - 2012 Please see my #28 article "Radioactive Reality II: “Bancroft Area: Radioactive Mineral Sites”
Water seepage is common around mines. This water is flowing directly into the stream a hundred feet away. Circa 2009 - 2012 Please see my #28 article "Radioactive Reality II: “Bancroft Area: Radioactive Mineral Sites”
Rare Earth 2 was rehabilitated long before I got there Circa 2009 - 2012 Please see my #28 article "Radioactive Reality II: “Bancroft Area: Radioactive Mineral Sites”
Possible position of a structural component base Circa 2009 - 2012 Please see my #28 article "Radioactive Reality II: “Bancroft Area: Radioactive Mineral Sites”
Lift rings embedded in the concrete would indicate this slab could be hoisted, possibly covering a shaft Circa 2009 - 2012 Please see my #28 article "Radioactive Reality II: “Bancroft Area: Radioactive Mineral Sites”
