This is the only open cavity that thisn author saw in either the outcrop or the rubble on the ground. The contents of the vug appeared to be calcite with a tabular habit. The material was weathered and dull.
Searching for open amygdules in the Eocene age Hightown Dike. Columnar jointing suggests shallow emplacement.
In many fragments seen around the outcrop the amygdules have been weathered out.
Although amygdules are very common they are nearly always completely filled. Open pockets with free standing crystals are very rare.
