This is a digital image in reflected light in crossed polars illustrating deep red internal reflections in the new mineral rozhdestvenskayaite. The as yet uncharacterised Pb-Mo-Te mineral near the centre of the image shows scarring by the electron microprobe beam.

This is a digital image in reflected plane polarized light illustrating the new mineral rozhdestvenskayaite (greenish grey), which occurs together with galena (white), hessite (pinkish) and partially altered pyrite (yellow). Various dark grey alteration rims are present and quartz gangue occurs to the left of the image.

Field of View: 450 μm

Reflected light digital image of a grain of pale pinkish montbrayite surrounded by dark grey araldite. Montbrayite (with four microhardness indentations) is cut by a veinlet of altaite (white) which contains irregular inclusions of petzite (grey).

Specimen E.1319 forms part of BM 1990,250 which itself was a portion of the type specimen which was obtained from the Royal Ontario Museum (by W H Paar). It was labeled "Frohbergite, Robb Montbray, Canada", and was registered as M37271 (originally M-15815-B); this was part of the material donated to the ROM by Hugh Park in 1928 and later studied by Peacock and Thompson in their paper characterising montbrayite which was published in American Mineralogist in 1946 [ Am. Mineral. 31: 515-526.]

The optical study was written up by Criddle A J, Stanley C J & Paar W H in 1991 [Canadian Mineralogist 29: 223-229]

Reflected plane polarized light digital image illustrating sheaf-like erazoite (strongly pleochroic in shades of grey to pinkish-grey) with slightly higher reflecting goldfieldite in between the two erazoite grains. Chalcopyrite occurs as small yellow inclusions in erazoite while enargite (pinkish-grey) occurs in baryte (black) towards the upper right of the image and minor bismuthinite (bright white) is also present.

Reflected light digital image (plane polarized light) illustrating honeaite (pale slightly bluish grey)and native gold (yellow) with a tiny inclusion of tellurobismuthite (slightly higher reflectance and on the margin of honeaite and at the far left) with minor sulphides chalcopyrite and pyrrhotite left of the gold grain. These occur in a matrix predominantly of prehnite (nearly black but with internal reflections).

Reflected light digital image (plane polarized light) illustrating honeaite (off-white) and native gold (yellow) in a matrix predominantly of prehnite (nearly black but with internal reflections). A few grains of ilmenite lie to the left of the honeaite grain while some titanite grains occur on the right.
