Close up of layering in tuff specimen.

Volcanic Tuff stained green with some blue (most likely copper), fine grained air ash fall; heat hardened.

First turnout on the east side after passing Crowfoot Road turnoff, Hwy 62, Jackson County, Oregon. Hwy 62 follows the eastern edge of Lost Creek Reservoir, crossing the Rogue River twice. The volcanics here are tuff and lahar deposits that most likely predate the destruction of Mount Mazama (present-day Crater Lake); yet is probably from Mazama during its long and active building period.

Snap Lake mine, Camsell Lake, Northwest Territories, Canada

Dimensions: 39.4 mm x 32.6 mm x 14.5 mm
Field of View: 60 mm
Weight: 0.64 g

Large olivine-rich clasts (light green) are part of the dark green Cambrian Snap Lake Kimberlite that intrudes the Archaean rocks of the Slave Craton. This was Canada's only totally underground diamond mine and the only one in the Northwest Territories. DeBeers was unable to sell this mine so they have put it out of production by flooding the mine and allowing it to freeze.
