20U-CY4Actinolite-Tremolite Series, Calcite CaCO3 , Quartz SiO2
Whitingham, Windham County, Vermont, USAApprox H:4in x W:12in x D:10in
Collected on the shore of Lake Whitingham from a calc-silicate gneiss formation labeled as "Y2cs" on the 2011 bedrock geologic map of Vermont. The rock has a peculiar round mass of marble in the middle, surrounded by Quartz and well formed actinolite-tremolite crystals up to a few centimeters in length. There is considerable weathering, and some iron oxides are developing in sports.
