RG1-P3RAktashite Cu6Hg3As4S12 , Realgar As4S4

03342050015770424549913.jpg
Lengenbach Quarry, Fäld, Binn, Goms, Valais, Switzerland

Field of View: 0.15 mm

Pseudocubic aktashite crystal(s) surrounded by realgar (e.g. lower right). A small amount of Zn replaces Hg (the Zn analogon of aktashite is nowackiite). The bright, tiny spots on both aktashite and realgar show a composition with the elements Hg>Te>S>As>Cu(>Ag), probably a new mineral, yet too small to be characterized.
EDXS analysis (EDXPR_3140) and photo: Philippe Roth; collection: Jürgen Daubner.

Lengenbach Quarry, Fäld, Binn, Goms, Valais, Switzerland

Field of View: 0.2 mm

This strange, because unusual, half-spherical cavity in dolomite is lined with aggregates of tiny tabular picotpaulite crystals. From dolomite ribbon #1 in the central part of the quarry.

H0D-63LArseniopleite (Ca,Na)NaMn2+(Mn2+,Mg,Fe2+)2(AsO4)3 , Kemmlitzite SrAl3(AsO4)(SO4)(OH)6

07588630015766662191250.jpg
Falotta, Tinizong, Oberhalbstein Alps, Albula Valley, Albula Region, Grisons, Switzerland

Field of View: 1.0 mm

Arseniopleite crystals are exceedingly rare, worldwide but also in Falotta. These crystals were brought out after dissolving calcite from a very thin fissure. A broader fracture on the same specimen hosts excellent grischunite crystals.

RMA-HTDArseniosiderite Ca2Fe3+3(AsO4)3O2·3H2O , Tripuhyite Fe3+Sb5+O4

04437690015766647952189.jpg
Falotta, Tinizong, Oberhalbstein Alps, Albula Valley, Albula Region, Grisons, Switzerland

Field of View: 0.9 mm

Pseudo-hexagonal, partly skeletal crystals of arseniosiderite impaling acicular tripuhyite needles. The fragile assemblage - that also contains cabalzarite, grischunite and kemmlitzite (not in the photo) - was unveiled after dissolving with diluted acid the massive brandtite that completely filled the thin (3-4 mm) fissure in the radiolarite host rock.

Erzmatt, Buus, Basel-Landschaft, Switzerland

Field of View: 80 μm

Tiny, macroscopically black and shiny avicennite crystals. The 'larger' ones show a combination of dominant cube {100}, octahedron {111} and rhombic dodecahedron {110}.

Rare outcrop

09454790015697475235341.jpg
Tiraun, Trun, Surselva Region, Grisons, Switzerland

The uranium mineralization at Tiraun essentially consists of boulders and debris with very little outcropping rock. This may be an exception (is it a real outcrop or part of larger, burried boulder?). The rock is a paraschist. The darker zones are made of botryoidal iron hydroxides, probably pseudomorph after pitchblende. Photo taken in September 2019.

07709960015697033676096.jpg
Les Moulins Mine, Saint-Luc, Anniviers, Valais, Switzerland

Field of View: 0.6 mm

Micaceous, optically grass to turquoise greenish zincalstibite crystals. The mineral is Fe-rich, as reported by Ansermet (2012), and Cu-rich.

Nadéls Alp, Trun, Surselva Region, Grisons, Switzerland

Field of View: .1 mm
Largest Crystal Size: 0.05 mm

Owing to the omnipresence of sphalerite and a gneissic, quartz-rich host rock, the rarity of hemimorphite at the site is surprising.
