The Denver Gem and Mineral Show - September 2008

The main show, the Denver Gem and Mineral Show, is held in the Merchandise Mart

Alfredo Petrov

Alfredo had his usual selection of unusual things.

Interesting sign on Alfredo's table

Jeromite from Bolivia

Charles B. Ward Fluorescent Minerals

The prize for the most impressive display in a dark room had to go to Charles B. Ward for his colourfully fluorescent minerals. Check out this video to see the range of colours offered. Truly wonderful.

Collector's Edge

A beautiful cabinet full of bright green and red things - Sweet Home Rhodochrosite mixed with neon green Riemvasmaak Fluorite, such as this one:

Fluorite from Riemvasmaak, South Africa

Here's the cabinet in video:

Crystal Classics/Kristalle

I was very impressed by this large plate of Ruby crystals from Norway! As I was looking at it, a mindat regular purchased it!

Ruby from Norway

Fine Minerals International

Fine Minerals Int. had some very pretty specimens, such as this Chrome Diopside specimen...

.. and some incredible quartz crystals!

Mineral Classics

The Kosnar Brothers had some wonderful bolivian things as usual - in particular this fine Aheylite, possibly the best in the world.

Aheylite from Huanuni, Bolivia

Also, they had a cabinet shelf of some incredible new colour-change Monazites from the Siglo XX mine in Bolivia, here's some video showing them off:

Stuart Wilensky

Stuart had a whole range of lovely things. Firstly, this Indicolite Tourmaline with an attached quartz crystal was a total beauty.

And this Linarite from the Grand Reef mine was fantastic, including perfect mirror faces reflecting the label!

And this huge Elmwood calcite on Sphalerite is nothing short of spectacular.

UK Mining Ventures

Jesse is yet again retrieving unbelievable Fluorites from the Rogerley Mine here in the UK, and here are some of this summer's finds. Wow!

Hi Jolyopn,

Thanks for the report.
What was the size of the Norwegian ruby specimen ?

Knut, we purchased it as you might guess. I know it is about 9 inches by 7 inches or so, from memory. It is to be delivered here and both Jim and I thought it was incredible. So, once I get it home and we catalog it I will give you more details.
