Tucson 2011 - The Westward Look Mineral Show

It's Tucson time again, and first off I visited the Westward Look Resort for the opening day of the Westward Look mineral show. Tucson is slowly starting to warm up after record-breaking low temperatures. This next photo from the resort shows a sight I've never seen in Tuscon before!

Water Fountain

Stonetrust had some of the spectacular Austrian Fluorites seen in the recent Mineralogical Record article:

Stonetrust Fluorites

Stonetrust Fluorites

Also from Stonetrust, the dark crystals here on feldspar from the Shigar valley, Pakistan, are the (newly reclassified) Pyrochlore group mineral - Fluornatromicrolite.

Moving along to Kristalle/Crystal Classics...

Tanzanite with Prehnite

Titanite from Pakistan

Native Silver from the Keeweenaw Peninsula, Michigan

And then on to Green Mountain Minerals

Cruizero Mine (Brazil) Tourmaline

and a much larger (but not as gemmy) Tanzanite with Prehnite

From Western Minerals:

Caledonite - Mammoth St. Anthony Mine, Arizona

Alpine Mineral Co. had these amazing Nevada opals, stored underwater in plastic domes

Nevada Opal

Of course, Tucson is a place to meet friends, here are Gail Spann and Frank Hawthorne

Gail and Frank

A.Martaud Minerals of course had pink Fluorite

Pink Fluorite from France

... and Gypsum from Djibouti

Over to Rob Lavinsky at The Arkenstone, and the most significant new thing he was offering was a small selection of Prehnite specimens from Prospect Park Quarry, New Jersey

Shelf of Prehnite

Prehnite from New Jersey

And over to the Gobin brothers...

A pair of Gobins.

Nice Tasmanian Crocoites

Collector's Edge had this HUGE Chinese Rhodochrosite

Chinese Rhodochrosite

... also Chinese Ilvaite

And great Congo Malachite

At Dan and Diana Weinrich's room:

Parisite-(Y) from Muzo, Colombia

and this fabulous Caldbeck Fells Pyromorphite...

Pyromorphite, Roughten Gill, Cumbria, UK

The next report will detail the new exhibition at the University of Arizona Mineral Museum (Afghan and Pakistani minerals) and the "Inn Suites" show - will be uploaded soon!
