“Known locally as lemon chrysoprase. It is found in a belt of ultamafic rock that stretches from Norseman to Wiluna. It occurs in many of the same locations as chrysoprase, most notably Yerilla, Marshall Pool, and Goongarrie, but numerous other places as well. It occurs as veins and plates, most commonly nodular form, quite often exceeding many tonnes in weight for a single nodule. Usually the interiors of these large nodules are of lighter colour and porous, making them unsuitable for gem cutting. It is produced from hydrothermal leaching of magnesium from serpentine. In Western Australia most magnesite is white, however in certain locations the presence of nickel mineralisation is reponsible for the pale green-yellow colour. 2nd photo is back of specimen.
