12.6 x 8.5 x 6.4 cm. An impressive, aesthetic and rare large combination from Sentinel rock - an area known for fine quartz specimens since the 1880s (MINDAT). The sculptural triangular microcline crystal matrix hosts two pristine, well-placed, sharply terminated, moderately lustrous, translucent smoky quartz crystals with frosted faces. The dominant large smoky is 5.3 cm tall. The other corner hosts corroded pseudomorphs of goethite/hematite after sharp siderite rhombs, to 3.0 cm on the diagonal. Smaller siderite pseudomorphs on both the large smoky quartzes and the matrix plus more scattered small smoky quartzes add even more character. A further bonus on this two-sided rib is that the bottom is festooned with small quartz points. This is an exceptional and rare large combination pseudomorph example from the Dr. Barratt Phillips Collection and this locale.
