A valid IMA mineral species
This page is currently not sponsored. Click here to sponsor this page.
Formula:
Rh3Ni32S32
Specific Gravity:
5.195 (Calculated)
Crystal System:
Isometric
Name:
Named in honor of Thomas Oberthür, geologist with the Bundesanstalt für Geowissenschaften und Rohstoffe (German Geological Survey). He is an expert on the geology, geochemistry and mineralogy of gold, platinum-group element and "coltan" deposits in Africa.
Co-described with torryweiserite.

Together with the latter suggested to be formed at ca. 500 °C, under moderate fS2 conditions, via "ordering of Rh-Ni-S nanoparticles in precursor Rh-bearing pentlandite during cooling".
