An term used earlier in igneous nomenclature for an igneous rock, consisting mostly of sanidine. To avoid conflict with the metamorphic usage it should not be used for igneous rocks. Locally, for example in Italy, the term “sanidinite” is still used for a subvolcanic rock consisting mostly of sanidine.
