Fakes & FraudsWhat do you think of theese items on Ebay?

8th Oct 2014 18:38 UTCandrea signorelli

They're all black tibetan quartz crystals...or at least the sellers tell so... what do you think? I'm a little confused because they seem to be real but maybe they're glass or artificially irradiated... i don't know

Especially the third one is suspicious due to the price..

Also all of 'em are from China, and this makes me think...but i'm not a expert

Thank you a lot,

Andrea

They are real quartz xls with black inclusions that haven't been irradiated.:-)

Natural.. hydrocarbon inclusions. Rather common in the Beekmantown Group limestone/dolostone in Ontario (Greely), Quebec (couple places), and New York (Herkimer).

I used to have a nice set of crystals that gradually went from 1cm to 2 centimeters. Were pretty cool. They were from china also but very clear crystals. These included ones are cool too.

Some of these are rather nice, I still like the herkimer a with the pyro bitumen in them better because of clarity, but these ones are sort of nice. He's they are real, not irradiated I can see the black spotting inside which suggests it is a hydrocarbon or something similar, not irradiation.

Does anybody have any better locality information than just Tibet?

9th Oct 2014 01:47 UTCStephanie Martin

This quartz could come from Jinkouhe in Sichuan province but that's just a guess.

There were at least 2 previous threads on this topic. See links below.

Andrea, the 3rd listing will likely go for considerably more than the opening bid. That being said, they are rather small, less than half an inch for those who still use and remember inches.

Sometimes amazed by eBay bidding - the third lot has had five bids and is "up" to only 30 cents!

Gives a whole new meaning to "natural".

Those kind of quartz look alike started when the new age movement gained momentum. Suddenly there were not enough high quality quartz points to supply the demand for hand held quartz "wands". They started cutting six side prismatic shapes out of large broken quartz crystals. Then very soon they started appearing made from massive rose quartz and amethyst cut from the big amethyst points from Maraba. Now they are made in Brazil and China out of almost any lapidary material that is available. Today tens of thousands of these items are sold, though many of them have only a point on one end and round on the other so they can be used as "massage wands". Go figure.

Mystically inclined customers seem to attach added value to anything coming from Tibet, but few marketable minerals actually do come from Tibet, so some dealers "fill the void" by marketing anything from "nearby" areas (anywhere in China, the Himalayas generically, and sometimes even the Deccan Traps!) as being "Tibetan". Caveat emptor.

I am wondering what is the perceived significance of the two differently shaped ends and how is it used for massage. Are both ends used? ;-)

Michael,

Although the metaphysical market makes up s substantial part of our sales I have never been able to bring myself to study the subject. Interacting over the years with several hundred of our customers immersed in the metaphysical market I have learned the following. There seem to be many flavors and different philosophies at work in the new age community and the lack of pier reviewed articles is endiemic. It seems however that there is a general perception among the new age community that the points on crystals either natural or cut and polished that the point "directs" the energy of the crystal or that it directs the mind energy of the person wielding the crystal/wand at what ever it is pointed at. Quartz crystals according to "them" can also be "cleansed" and "programmed" to achieve various ends. Beyond these general observations I don't think I can help you much more.
