Improving Mindat.orgWhat happened to Eure?

4th Dec 2018 05:57 UTCNorman King 🌟 Expert

Granted I know little about France, but they don’t call me Norman King for nothing. I want to add a locality in France for the chert (mineralogically, probably the quartz variety chalcedony, depending on whom you ask) that I collected at Giverny last summer. Giverny is in the French region of Normandy. Normandy includes five departments: Calvados, Eure, Manche, Orne, and Seine-Maritime. In Mindat, Nomandy shows four departments, leaving out Eure. Why are we missing Eure? That made me check Mindat to verify that Indiana is listed among U.S. states. Happily, it is. I propose that as soon as Eure is listed in Mindat we have an online champagne toast: Long live Eure in Normandy!

Eure right! It was missing!

Added :)

Why are we missing Eure? - Because nobody has added it (although it is not mineralogically diverse, Indiana does have a few localities that have produced specimens). Generally we like to add those localities that have some rocks or minerals present.

Seeing as you asked for it I've also added Giverny as a subregion.

So, I guess Norman now owes you a glass (or bottle) of Champagne :-))

Calvados is more appropiate for Normandy!

For Maine, USA it looks like a select all and paste was done from a gazetteer!

Thank you all for coming to my rescue. Erik, Good call. Wine or champagne from Giverny doesn't win any prizes. In fact, it may not even be made any more. As for me, I am doing the champagne toast. To Mindaters--Eure all winners!
