Improving Mindat.orgmember articles organized into categories + search engine for the articles content?

Indeed, I find it difficult to find the articles I'm interested in amongst hundreds of articles

I was just thinking about this problem. The day before yesterday I came across a really great article at Mindat. There has been discussion about having formal articles as a feature at Mindat. The articles would be read by editors and when the process was finished, there would be an ever increasing formal literature at Mindat as well as informal literature. The indexing, of course, would be very important.

Actually, along similar lines, I was trying to search for/locate a discussion that I started a few years ago on darkening of native arsenic over time and cannot locate it in mindat. I expect it is in here SOMEwhere but it does not seem to come up when I search "Arsenic" or other key words. Very frustrating. Any suggestions?

One of my priorities for next year is to look at the articles system and see how we can improve it.

I remember a thread about Dave's darkening Arsenic, possibly containing a link to the article. So I used the message board advanced search for "Arsenic" and author "Joyce" for "all dates", to discover "No results were found."!!! I know Jolyon has "searches" on his to do list.

Yes, we also need a search engine and editors for the articles.

The article system is due for a *huge* overhaul this year. This will address all of these issues and more. Probably take a couple of months *after Tucson* to get this ready.

It would be nice to better control the dialog to the right or left of a photo. Suggestion: provide a quote box about the width of half of the page. Then provide code to place a quote box either to the right of a photo or to the left of a photo.

Quote box float left, Photo float right

Photo float left, quote box float right.

This would allow writers to word wrap dialog on either side of a photo with better control and also allow writers to write in columns.

Quote box float left, quote box float right.

PS. Will existing articles remain intact and will they be supported for editing?
