Improving Mindat.orgError when trying to edit (or view)

Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/mindat/www/include.php on line 4768

when trying to edit or view this photo

some others are "slow" but this one always times out

Proabably a temporary belly-ache - but maybe not

OK? I just got it to load (very slowly) from the link in this thread.

Something flaky going on?

I just tried it and it did load again - after about 25 seconds.

And now I get the same error with other photos.

Viewing is very slow, editing impossible.

Guess it must be my end.

But everything else works normally. Very strange.

Like much else - it will probably go away on the next reboot - of something.

You have about 20 or 30 connections open to the server.

I just re-booted. Same problem. Can you kill the connections from your end?

BTW - Everything works normally EXCEPT when I try to view/edit from my own gallery.

After that, Mindat gets stuck and I can't even get it to load in a new Chrome tab.

But if I start a new Chrome window it's Ok - unless I try to edit.

It actually doesn't matter too much at the moment ...

The strangeness continues.

One pattern that I found (possibly just a fluke - but repeated three times):

When things are in a "good" state, I am able to edit (almost instantly) photos 428328 and above.

But my next oldest photo (427979) causes Mindat (and/or Chrome) to spin its wheels.

Even if I stop the transfer (and thus perhaps leave yet another orphan connection), nothing works. Not even in a new window.

However, this appears to clear up rather quickly, and I can repeat the same experiment with the same results.

(In this case the photos in my gallery are listed newest first. I haven't had time to see if I get different results using other ordering - or by attempting to edit from public galleries.)

In any case, while I have no problem editing some photos (apparently fairly recent ones.) I have yet to find a path to get to edit other (apparently older) photos.

As I said, it doesn't matter much right now because there aren't any significant edits in my queue. But at some point it might get frustrating.

Note added via edit; looks like the old/new was a red herring. Currently I can't edit any of my photos. Acts like "it" is in an infinite loop.

It seems the problem is only affecting edits of photos for the Poudrette Quarry, which was recently moved from Rouville RCM to La Vallee-du-Richelieu RCM.

Hopefully this isn't just another red-herring, but so far I have not run into an exception that I can recall. (I wasn't paying attention to locality before, but I think that all of photos I was actually interested in editing were fro Poudrette.)

If anyone reading this has posted photos for Poudrette (or MSH), it might be useful to know what happens if you try to edit the posts.

Still can not edit any of my posts for Poudrette Quarry. All else is normal.

This problem started at about the same time that Poudrette was moved from Rouville RCM (see previous msg).

Would appreciate anyone else who posted to Poudrette prior to that time to report what happens when they try to edit their posts.

I added La Vallee-du-Richelieu RCM as a new sublocality (it was missing) and cleared all caches.

Maybe this helps.
