The Amateurgeological Society of Greenland have on a meeting in Sisimiut on 13th November 2011 decided to close in protest against the prohibition to collect stones. It is a complicated story, because the www.ujarassiorit.gl reports, that the administration of the Mineral hunt -Ujarassiorit-program in 2011 got 531 stones and rewarded 120.000 taxfree kr for the best of them. Ujarassiorit-program has been running in 22 years and is very popular competition: go out and look for rocks. Ujarassiorit is organised of Greenland Resources A/S in Nuuk, on behalf of BMP: Bureau of Minerals and Petroleum. The conflict startet with the licence on coloured gemstones (rubine) in Qeqertarsuatsiaat/Fiskenæsset area in 2005. One big problem with the rubine-monopoly was, that the BMP was not able to tell, if a stone was rubine or not.
