Steinbruch am Schlossberg, Schlossberg, Gloggnitz, Industrieviertel, Niederösterreich, Österreich
Abandoned quarry in riebeckite gneiss (probably a former meta-rhyolite, see Phadke, 1967).
Publication in preparation (Kolitsch, Bernhard & Schachinger, work done 2007-2011); it will report several new finds and show that the kobeite-(Y) described in the literature was erroneously reported.
Since 2012 this quarry is unfortunately filled up with excavated material from the Semmering basis tunnel (Lower Austrian side).

Description: Erroneously reported; reinvestigation showed the 2 specimens in the collection of the NHM Vienna to be (only partly metamict) aeschynite-(Y) (Kolitsch, U., to be published). Visually similar, other specimens (collection T. Schachinger) also were determined by SXRD and SEM-EDS to be partly metamict aeschynite-(Y). |
