A lead-silver-gold mine located 12 miles NE of the Binalong RR station.
Located 13 miles SE of Boorowa and 20 miles NW of Yass.
The mine is located in the parish of Taunton.
Now partially remediated. (http://www.amonline.net.au/geoscience/minerals/localities.htm).
The mine was operated initially by Kangiara Proprietary Mining Company NL (1907-1914); then by Pyrites Ltd (1914-1918) and then by Lake George Mines (1952-1958).
The main shaft reached a depth of 126 m with numerous levels approximately 30 m apart over a strike length of some 137 m.
Produced 7,250 tons of lead, approximately 0.5 million ounces silver plus over 3,000 ounces of gold.
Copper and others were originally smelted at the mine site and then in later years transported to Breadalbene, Cockle Creek or Port Kembla for processing.
