"In Feb 1887 HYL Brown visited an area near Bugle Ranges where alluvial gold was reputed to have been found. He inspected an area below Fischer's residence near the Long Gully Road which he pronounced as a likely place for alluvial gold and near here the Wheal Ellen Co. had earlier opened a reef. On section 1923 near the railway line between Philcox and Stirling Hills gold was found in several places in washing and a shaft was sunk 60ft on a gossan formation.
At this time a discovery of silver was made in the area at the location given above. The silver lode was small and very little work was done on it. It's exact location in not know but HYL Brown's personal field map marks a mine on section 2882 and notes that it was timbered to the water level and there was rubbish at the bottom."
