Raleigh Gold Mine
The Raleigh gold deposit is located in the Kundana mining region 22 km NW of the city of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia and 2.5 km south of the Kundana gold mine in the Coolgardie Gold Field.
The mine is an underground mine in a former pit.
The Raleigh Vein comprises quartz with minor inclusions of biotite-chlorite laminations and slivers of wall-rocks. Gold is visible, as are minor amounts of scheelite, pyrite, sphalerite, galena, chalcopyrite, tourmaline and rarely pyrrhotite. Intense biotite alteration extends up to a metre from the Raleigh Vein into the wallrock, and decreases outwards with distance.
The Raleigh deposit is associated with the Strzelecki Structure, a steep west dipping laminated quartz vein system. It is developed at the contact between andesitic volcanics, and a sedimentary unit, in the immediate Footwall of a thick differentiated gabbroic sill called the Powder Sill. The vein system is similar to the parallel K2 structure. Both structures host most of the gold deposits at Kundana.
The orebody has a total resource of the order of 60 t of Au with grades of 18 to 30 g/t Au.
