A gold mine started, owned by Eldorado Gold Corporation and since 2008 by AngloGold Ashanti. It was started in 1987 and produced about 36 tons of gold until 1999.
Production was ceased in 2007.
Located about 50 km east of Belo Horizonte.
The deposit is hosted in siderite-quartz-chlorite banded iron formation (BIF) which is overlain by a magnetite-rich BIF. Country rocks are low-grade metamorphosed black shales and tuffaceous rocks.
