Aravaipa is a former mining and ranching town and present-day ghost town.
It had a post office from 1883 until 1893.
Its original name was Dunlap after Mr. Burt Dunlap, a local rancher.
The name was changed about 1892 when it was realized that there was already a post office with the same name.
The new town name was after the Aravaipa Indians.
The town site lies in a wilderness area.
