Mina Fazenda Brasileiro; MFB
A gold deposit in the southern part of the Paleoproterozoic Itapicuru greenstone belt. The mineralization occurs along sub-horizontal quartz veins hosted in chlorite schist enclosing an altered gabbro sill. The upper, leucocratic part of the sill is metamorphosed to biotite which contains a stockwork of gold-bearing veins. Minor veins are also found in adjacent metabasalt and metagabbro. The mine was started in 1984 and produced more then 40 tons of gold until 1999.
The mine is both an open pit and underground. Currently owned by Equinox Gold.
Now part of the new municipality of Barrocas established in 2000, after splitting the former municipality of Serrinha.
