Name(s) in local language(s):
Zinkhütte Genna (Schlackenvorkommen), Letmathe, Iserlohn, Sauerland, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Deutschland

Slag dumps of a former smelting facility, founded in 1859 and located between what is now the RWE (Rheinisch-Westfälisches Elektrizitätswerk) substation (at the southwest end) and what is now (since 2021) the company Bakelite (Gennaer Strasse 2-4) (from 2005 to 2021 this was the company Hexion) (at the east end). Located south of the Letmathe railway station and about 3 km west of Iserlohn.

The locality is located within a nature reserve since 1986, collecting is forbidden!

The plant itself was built in 1866 (operations commenced on 1 July of that year) to process zinc ores (“galmei”/“calamine”) mined in the Iserlohn — Letmathe area.

Copper (to be used with zinc to manufacture brass) was brought in from the nearby copper mines in Dillenburg, Thalitter, and Rothenburg, and later from Sweden and Bohemia.

After 1900 (when the Dorothea quarry closed), only ore from abroad was worked.

The “Hütte” (smelter) closed in 1925, followed by the “Schwefelwerk” (sulphuric acid factory) in 1936.

Note on the mineral list:

Bender & Krimmelbein (1994) also list the following species:

— Calciumaluminiumoxidchloridsulfathydrat
— Eisenmanganphosphat
— Fluorvarulith
— Green Rust II
— Magnesiumphosphat
— Zink-Antimonspinell
