We are looking through my great grandfather's, Stanley Dalton Dodge, collections. He had mineral and rock collections that he collected himself-

but he also had a box- cardboard- about 10 inches by 12 inches and 2 inches high- with a label that says "Connecticut Minerals on Parade" and the name Ronald Everett Januzzi, The Mineral Press, 83 Elm Street, Danbury Connecticut.

The minerals/rocks inside (43 compartments in the box) are labeled with little stickers and numbers- but the key of which mineral each number is- is missing. It appears as if this was a mineral collection that could be purchased from Ronald Everett Januzzi.

Does anyone have a similar collection and do you still have the key?

Hi Kate,

Ron Januzzi used to have a rock shop in Brewster, NY, not far from the Tilly Foster mine. He had very good collections of Tilly Foster minerals as well as minerals from Connecticut. I think Januzzi now lives in Colorado.

I hope some collectors from the northeastern U. S. can provide more information for you.

The separation of minerals from their labels in old collections is sadly all too common.

If you are in or near Conn. and can bring the collection to any meeting of one of several gem and mineral clubs in the state, I'm certain one or more club members can reconstruct most of the localities for you. The public is always welcome, one need not be a member to attend. For a list of clubs and info on where and when they meet go to:

Thanks for your reply-- I actually searched for Mr Januzzi in Colorado and found him! He is now 83, but wanted to help- he does not still have the key to that colection Connecticut Minerals on Parade- but he offered to re-create it, if we could send him pictures-

The Walker Mineral Club meets at the University of Toronto, starting in September, on the second Wednesday of the month at 8:00 PM. http://www.walkermineralogicalclub.com/ We meet at the Earth Sciences Center, 22 Russell Street, Room 2093. I am originally from New Jersey and have collected in Connecticut; although I may not be the best expert to associate minerals to localities, I could try to help.

Hi Kate:

Yes, Mr. Januzzi is still out there, I did not have contact info for him. But I see you found it!

He sold most of his collection to a mineral dealer who lives near me, so I have photographed many things he collected and they are posted to mindat, mostly things from the old Tilly Foster Iron Mine, and the Fillow Quarry.

If you send him some pix of your "parade" I'm sure he will remember what the minerals are.
