Howdy All,

There has been a delay on box 3, it has been returned to me, as part of you address has been destroyed along the way.

I'm not sure what they did to the box in order to to do it though???

It has been re-boxed and is back on it's way to Horst.

Cheers Mark

Hehe, maybe an elephant stepped on it?

I once sent a small box to the USA, and my friend used the same box to send stuff back,

so this box had gone over the atlantic twice. It came back to me looking like a soccer ball,

with no corners left at all!

I really don't know what they do with these sometimes!

In the postoffice here, I give my box to this guy, with 3 stickers saying 'fragile' on it, and he

tosses it in this huge box 3 meters away from him...

Oh well...

14th Jul 2009 00:28 UTCFred & Linda Elsnau

I used to work in the post office and they do toss boxes while sorting mail. But it isn't just that they toss them...they bounce them off the wall first and then the boxes drop into the bin!...Then they toss more, and most likely heavier boxes, on top of your "fragile" package. This type of handling will happen every time your box is routed while on the way to it's addressee.

I strongly suggest packing anything you are concerned about with the "box in box" method. That is, pack the mineral just as you normally would for shipping. THEN, pack that box into another larger box with packing material (paper, foam, popcorn, bubblewrap, etc.) between all sides, top and bottom of the two boxes. If the inner box is heavy, use firmer packing and a larger outer box. We have received things packed this way where the outer box is virtually smashed into a ball and the inner box was untouched. Of course, if the mineral is truly fragile, it needs to be adequately supported to protect it from the shock of sudden stops when the box lands!

Hope these suggestions help with your future shipping ventures.

Howdy All,

Well the box is back on it's way, this time instead of being just boxed, it's boxed and then inside a 'tough' envelope, which itself is quite hard to break open, and the address is not on a label sticker, but actually written on envelope so they can't loose part of it!...lol

That's great news! I'm really looking forward to seeing the selection of minerals that has resulted, after having passed through six countries. I guess there is a benefit to being the last (or next to last) person on the list.

Ed

Howdy All,

This is great going guys, do you all realise this box started late, got held up on it's first juorney and yet it is currently on track to be completed before the other box's...!!!

(It must be the turbo we added, it just need to get past the lag first...lol)

It's going to be great to see what is in there when it gets back here after it's world wide trip!

(spoken with a rather bad deep english accent taken from a hollywood movie) Well done 'ol chaps, well done, I say...!

Cheers Mark.

Hi Edward and others,

Box 3 was sent today to Edward.

I hope he'll get it soon but the box has to go oversea and it'll need a bit time.

Edward, let know when you'll get it.

Regards,

Michel

Greetings all,

Well, the package arrived today. Not bad, Belgium to New York in 4 days! Looks like I'll be taking 5 specimens, so give me a day or two to mount up replacements & they'll be on their way to Mark in Australia.

Ed

21st Oct 2009 18:56 UTCMichel Blondieau

I am really surprised; only 4 days... It was really fast.

Michel

22nd Oct 2009 19:32 UTCEdward Johnson

Just got back from the post office; box #3 is now on its way to Australia. Let us know when you get it, Mark.

Ed

Howdy all,

"we win..we win...!" lol

Oh hang on, it wasn't a race was it?

Can you guess, I'm in a happy mood!

Box 3 made it's return to me today after nearly 4 months of travelling the globe.

The specimens I received appear to come from 3 different collectors and I must say that that are all quite nice.

I look forward to doing this all again soon. If you all want to do this again just let me know, we'll re-arrange the list so we all send to different people. I know there is talk of all the boxes doing the trip again, let's hope so!

I'll post again soon, hopefuly with some photos to go with it all.

Cheers Mark

3rd Nov 2009 09:58 UTCEddy Vervloet Manager

I will send over the champagne! Hehe. Well done, box number 3!

Like I said in the mail, Mark, I will reinvite people soon. And of course I will reshuffle the groups.

Still with the fact in mind I would like to keep the groups as international as possible.

Cheers,

Eddy
