Hello!

I purchased two micromounts of azzurite at the CMMA Symposium in Canada last weekend. One comes from Capo Calamita, Isla Elba and the other from Serrabottini. My mindat images are here:

http://www.mindat.org/photo-463953.html

and here:

http://www.mindat.org/photo-463952.html

It is evident from the photos below that the same person collected/mounted both specimens. Does anyone recognize the style of labeling, printing or dating? Can this person be identified from the photos?

Thanks!

I can only to say the collector don't knows well italian geography, because it is Serrabottini and not Serra Bottini!

Well, hard to judge. Apparently, if you use the name Serra Bottini on Google, several results pop up:

Perhaps there are two ways to call the place?

I am not from there, but could it be that this is a local way to call the area?

Qualche toscano puo' aiutarci?

Mi pare a memoria di intuire che i campioni possano essere della ex collezione Carlo Cassinelli,

che non si occupa più di minerali e non vedo da anni, ma lo stile dei cartellini è quello per me.

Forse Giorgio potrebbe confermare.

Courtesy of Google Translate:

I think from memory to guess that samples can be ex-collection of Charles Cassinelli,

that is more concerned with minerals and can not wait for years, but the style of the cards is the one for me.

Maybe George could confirm.

Thank you, Domenico!

Yes these specimens were mounted by Carlo Cassinelli.

I have some with identical labels in my collection too.

Google's translation of Giorgio's response:

You're too young to have exchanged with Cassinelli, whose collection was purchased by many collectors, first of all - if I understand correctly - by Domenico.

I lived less than 200 meters from Charles when I was in Milan and there was every so often to his house (we have also written an article together in 1984 Pilcante). Caro was very methodical and very well written.

In particular, the sites were always written with a capital letter followed by lowercase letters. He made no flourishes (as seen in v) and wrote the original one without the leg, but with a simple slash.

Its definitely different samples have been some changes in the labels (his were no lines in the frame).

A demonstration of what I say here is an original label of the same year 1981 and you can see the differences I just mentioned.

I have lined up my images with those of Giorgio and Domenico, and I see enough similarity to know that my mounts came from Carlo Cassinelli. The common traits are the species name in capital letters and underlined, and the handwriting of the dates. Thank you all for your responses!

Actually, I find them pretty similar, too...

I have another puzzle:

08630950016012258021632.jpg

Does this micromounting style look familiar to anyone? The specimen is anatase from Rio delle Marne, Ghiare, Parma. I cannot find an exact match on Mindat.

Thanks!

Hi Steve,

I found this match :

Hi Steve,

I confirm the match found by Federico.

Rio delle Marne is a short creek which is very close tho the village of Ghiare, in the Berceto municipality, but the creek, being at the opposite side of the Taro river, is totally in the municipality of Valmozzola. That's the reason why many collectors wrongly label the locality as 'Rio delle Marne, Ghiare di Berceto, Parma'. The right one is the Mindat locality.

Cheers

Fabrizio
