PhotosBrochantite - Sunshine no. 3 Adit, Blanchard Mine, Bingham, Hansonburg District, Socorro Co., New Mexico, USA

Why is this posted as brochantite?

16th Apr 2012 03:15 UTCJohn Sobolewski 🌟 Expert

Because it is acicular Brochantite largely covered by small crystals of almost transparent gypsum or selenite as mentoned in the caption. In some respects, it is similar to the rosasites or the aurichalcites covered by small calcite crystals from the Ojuela Mine. John S.

I'm confused. The photo shows quartz xls with linarite at the junctions (as per the caption).

May be there was a photo mixup? (Click the topic header here to see the photo I'm talking about.)

John - I think you're taking about this photo (today's list)

Whereas I'm talking about the one pointed to by the header link (yesterday's list)

You are correct. Because no photo or no photo number was explicitly included in your message, I assumed you were refering to the Brochantite I uploaded at about the same time. I do not like these implicit references to a photo since they can cause misunderstandings as in this case. Explicit refences are much better. Anyway, I corrected the title. Thanks for pointing it out. John S.

Unfortunately that's how the photo talk pages work.

It's convenient because you don't have to type anything except your comment - the message title/header is generated automatically and it does provide a link to exactly what one is talking about.

But I agree that it does seem to cause confusion because it's not immediately obvious which message titles/headers are pointers to photos.

Perhaps David might consider making this more explicit in some way.
