Your sperrylites were all approved for everyone to see.

You may have overlooked the message at the bottom of http://www.mindat.org/gallery.php?min=3723.

Hi Peter. I wasn't aware that you had received a complaint about Fergusonite. Not even fergusonite, let alone Fergusonite-Y, is listed for the locality. Perhaps someone more familiar with the locality might comment. So when approving the photo I sent you the following;

" Your photo might not be the minerals you said it is"

"That's a killer fergusonite, but how do you know it is Y dominant? It looks

like β-Fergusonite. Thanks for posting it."

I also approved your rich sperrylite. I'll bump it up from where Uwe told you to look.

I wonder if the locality hasn't been mixed up with this: http://www.mindat.org/loc-14766.html

Thanks so much Reiner. Since Peter collected this himself he may remember the locality.

I notice that only the J G Gole quarry locates both Fergusonite-(Ce) and Fergusonite-(Y) there and I wonder why all the posted photos are labelled Fergusonite-(Y)? Have they all been analysed? Are only the big ones Y ?

The Pegmatite is Y rich that is why they only find Allanite-Y there. I also analyzed some Euxenite from there and detected no Ce one would think that if there was Fergusonite-Ce one would find some Ce in the Euxenite which is found with the Fergusonite. The Fergusonites in the ROM collection are all Fergusonite-Y so I don't know who put Fergusonite-Ce as being found there but there is no evidence for it.

The Fergusonite from the Card Quarry is also Y dominant. I have added the results of a 1977 chemical analysis to the posted photograph.

Thanks Reiner, I fixed the locality.

Thanks Richard. I'm glad you were watching.

On the contrary Peter at least I learned something and a locality got a little cleaner. If you are in doubt about a locality, you can post a photo on the "identity" board and receive the combined wisdom of the community.;-)
